Mexico East Cape Fishing
Trip
08/10/05-08/14/05
We arrived at an incredible fishing resort, Hotel Palmas de Cortez
and was it ever impressive, it is about 100 miles outside of Cabo San Lucas
located in the Sea of Cortez. This was my son, Christopher's first trip
to Mexico and his first attempt at deep sea fishing and my first stay at
this fabulous resort. Palmas brings all the creature comforts to one of
the most magnificent natural settings in the world. Over 50 air-conditioned
rooms, all with spectacular views of the Sea of Cortez, plus deluxe suites
and two bedroom/two bath condos, complemented by Baja’s most spectacular
seaside dining room, Our room was really nice, we stayed at one of the
new Condo's, 2 bedroom with a incredible view of the Sea of Cortez, the
room was nicely furnished complete with full kitchen.
On this trip we chartered the 32ft Marlintini,
an incredible crusier, The Captain was Chicho Cota and Deck Mate, Joel
Green (one of the hardest working deck mates you could ask for). This crew
as incredible, they knew where the fish were and how to catch them. The
first day out we caught 5 sail fish, 2 blue marlin, avg weight 300lbs,
10 tuna. Not bad for a first day. The second day was a bit slower, 3 sails
were caught and one blue marlin, at the end of the day we had a large striper
marlin on, but we lost it at the boat. All bill fish were released, but
we did keep all the tuna. My son Christopher caught his first sail fish,
about a 60lb sail, and I have his photo below. It was great seeing him
in action with that sail jumping out of the water and fighting all the
way to the boat. I was lucky enough to land a 300lb Blue Marlin, and man
did he put up a fight, it was pure excitement watching that fish fight,
jumping out of the water and dancing across the ocean. My best friend Dr.
Steve Bilbrey locked on to another big blue marlin right after I landed
mine. The Sea of Cortez has a brillant blue color and it almost looks purple
as you cruise across its waters. Check out the incredible photos below-

I would strongly recommend the Hotel Palmas de Cortez, it really
is a great resort for the serious fisherman. Very affordable and the fish
action is great. This amazing resort has become known worldwide as one
of the premier vacation and big-game fishing spots in the world, consistently
producing huge numbers of blue, black, and striped marlin, sailfish, dorado,
wahoo, yellowfin tuna, roosterfish and more. Thousand pound billfish have
been known to prowl submarine canyons and dropoffs just a few miles off
shore.
The contact person for all fishing expeditions at of the Hotel Palmas
de Cortez is German Cosio M. He is very experienced and will make sure
you enjoy you experience while at the resort, and if you want a first class
boat, the Marlintini will exceed all your expectations. All meals are included
in your stay, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The resort packs your lunch
along with waters, beer, cokes for your day out fishing. The day begins
at 6:30am and ends at about 3pm, so you really have a full 8 hours of exciting
non stop action.
